The new Penguin update is already in action, starting late on Wednesday, Google´s Matt Cutts announced in a blog post. As previously stated, Penguin 2.0 is going to have a bigger impact on spam and, as Cutts described it, is a ´brand new generation of algorithms´.

In other words, while the old Penguin only looked at the home pages of websites, the new version will delve deeper and will have a profound effect on certain areas, Cutts explained. The blog post also added that the rollout will affect 2.3% of all queries in English, but will have an impact on non-English queries as well. Cutts said that the scope of Penguin varies across languages, suggesting that languages with more spam would experience a stronger impact from the new Penguin.

Although this is practically the fourth rollout related to Penguin, Google refers to the latest update as Penguin 2.0; it is intended specifically to tackle black hat spam. So far no information on websites that have been hit by the new algorithm has been revealed, but plenty of webmasters posted comments on the news on social sites, mostly on Twitter, Search Engine Watch noted.

This new Penguin version is part of a massive project to remove spam from search results, outlined recently by Cutts in a video posted on YouTube. In the video, he predicted that spam would not be visible in search result pages after the summer.
